App Store Screenshot Generator

Drop in your app's screen captures and get back listing images at the exact sizes the App Store and Google Play ask for — device frame, background and caption included. Everything is rendered in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Add as many as you like · each one gets its own caption

Wrap your screen captures in a device frame, add a caption, and export at App Store or Google Play listing sizes — feature graphic included. Presets cover the sizes each store actually requires today: iPhone 6.9", iPad 13", and Play's phone and tablet slots. Unreleased app screens never leave your browser.

How to use

Add all your screen captures at once, then click through the thumbnails at the top and write a caption for each one. Background, frame and text styling apply to the whole set, so you only tune those once — the captions are the part that changes shot to shot. When it looks right, download the set as a ZIP and upload the files in order to App Store Connect or the Play Console's store listing section.

Everything is rendered locally with the Canvas API. Screens from an unreleased build never touch a server, so there is nothing to worry about with pre-launch material. No sign-up, no usage cap, no watermark.

Store sizes that actually matter

App Store

Apple has cut the list down hard. For an iPhone app you now only need one 6.9-inch set; Apple scales it down for every smaller device. If you skip 6.9-inch, App Store Connect falls back to requiring a 6.5-inch set instead. iPad apps need a separate 13-inch set. The older 5.5-inch and 6.5-inch slots still exist in the upload form, but supplying them is optional and most teams no longer bother.

SlotPixelsStatus
iPhone 6.9"1320 × 2868Required for iPhone apps
iPhone 6.5"1284 × 2778Required only if 6.9" is missing
iPad 13"2064 × 2752Required for iPad apps
iPhone 5.5"1242 × 2208Legacy, optional

Up to ten screenshots per slot, JPEG or PNG, and no alpha channel — a transparent PNG is rejected. Files from this tool are written as 24-bit PNG with no alpha channel and an opaque background edge to edge, so they upload as-is.

Google Play

Play is looser about exact pixels and stricter about ratio. Each image must be JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha, at least 320px and at most 3840px on any side, and — the rule that catches people — the long side can be at most twice the short side. You need at least two screenshots to publish and can upload up to eight per device type. This tool encodes every export as a 24-bit PNG with no alpha, so the format side of that rule is already handled.

Tablet 7"1200 × 1920Separate slot if you support tablets
Tablet 10"1600 × 2560Separate slot if you support tablets
Feature graphic1024 × 500Required, appears above the listing

Careful with modern phone aspect ratios. A raw capture from a 19.5:9 handset is 1080 × 2340, which is 2.17:1 — over Play's 2:1 limit, and it will be rejected. That is why the tall preset here stops at 1080 × 2160.

The feature graphic is a different animal

1024 × 500 is a wide banner, so a portrait screen capture dropped into it is nearly invisible. Pick that preset and the layout switches automatically: caption on the left, device on the right. Feature graphics work best with just the app name and a single line of positioning set large. Play crops the edges in some placements, so keep anything important away from the borders.

Making screenshots people actually stop for

The first two carry the whole set

Most people never scroll the screenshot carousel. Whatever makes your app worth downloading belongs in shots one and two; settings screens and secondary features go at the back, if they go in at all.

Keep captions short

Text renders smaller in the store than it looks here. One sentence per shot, and shorter is better. Write the outcome, not the feature — "See it on your lock screen" beats "Widget support" every time.

Clean up the status bar first

A capture showing 15% battery and a stack of unread notifications reads as sloppy. Android's developer options include a demo mode that pins the status bar to a clean state; on iOS, the simulator gives you the same thing for free. Turn it on before you capture.

Match the background to your icon

Your icon and your screenshots sit side by side in search results. Pulling the gradient colors from the icon makes the whole listing read as one deliberate thing rather than a pile of assets, and that reads as trustworthy.

Do not just ship raw captures

Both stores accept bare screen captures, and plenty of apps ship them. But a framed shot with a caption tells someone what they are looking at in the half-second they give it — a raw capture makes them work it out.

Troubleshooting

Play rejected my screenshot for its aspect ratio

The long side went past twice the short side. That is almost always a raw 1080 × 2340 capture from a tall phone. Run it through a preset here instead — every Play screenshot preset in this tool (1080 × 1920, 1080 × 2160, 1600 × 2560) sits at or inside the 2:1 limit.

App Store Connect says my screenshot size is wrong

Apple matches on exact pixel dimensions, not ratio, and it will not accept a file that is off by a few pixels. Use the 6.9-inch or iPad 13-inch preset rather than resizing by hand.

A store rejected my PNG for having an alpha channel

That is not something this tool produces any more. Exports are encoded directly as 24-bit PNG (PNG color type 2), which has no alpha channel at all — not merely an opaque one. On a browser without CompressionStream, the export falls back to a quality-95 JPEG, which also has no alpha.

My caption is getting cut off

Long captions wrap automatically, but they can still overflow the text area. Drop the text size or split the line. What you see in the preview is exactly what gets exported.

The screenshot looks soft

The source capture is smaller than the output size, so it is being scaled up. Capture on a device or simulator with a high-resolution screen — for the 6.9-inch preset you want a source at least 1290px wide.
