Remove Background from Photos

Erase the background from a photo and keep just the person. Save as a transparent PNG, fill in a background color, or blur it. Photos never leave your browser — no upload, no watermark, no usage limits.

Cut a person out of a photo and save it as a transparent PNG, or swap in a background color or blur. The recognition model is downloaded straight into your browser and runs there, so your photo is never uploaded — and there are no watermarks or usage limits. For photos without a person, paint the background away with the brush instead.

How to use

Add a photo and press Remove background with AI — only the person remains. If the result looks off, adjust the Subject area slider, then clean up anything left over or cut away with the erase and restore brushes. In brush mode, a circle the size of your current brush follows the cursor (red for erase, green for restore), so you can see exactly what you are about to paint. The S · M · L · XL buttons under the slider switch brush sizes quickly, and Undo stroke takes back just the last stroke if you slip. Finally, choose a transparent, colored, or blurred background and save as PNG.

Everything happens inside your browser. The recognition model is hosted alongside this page and your browser does the math itself, so your photo never leaves your device. Feel free to verify with the network tab of your browser's developer tools.

How is this different from other services

Most background removal services upload your photo to their servers for processing. Convenient — but it means handing photos of faces or work material to someone else's server, and the free tiers often cap you at low resolution, stamp a watermark, or limit you to a few images a day.

Here, your photo is never uploaded, it is saved at full original resolution, there is no watermark, and no usage cap. The trade-off: the model has to be downloaded once, and since the computation runs on your own device it can take a few seconds depending on your hardware.

What photos does it work best on

This tool uses a model trained to recognize people. It is most accurate on portraits, especially ones where the upper body fills the frame. Objects, animals and product shots are not recognized — for those, skip the AI and paint the background away with the erase brush, which works on any photo.

Even with people, some shots are harder than others. If the clothing nearly matches the background color, hair is flying loose, or dim lighting blurs the outline, the edges come out soft. The fastest fix is to get the rough shape right with the slider, then tidy just the edges with a small brush.

Troubleshooting

I saved with a transparent background but it shows up white

Programs that do not support PNG transparency render it as white or black — messaging apps and some document editors are common culprits. If you truly need transparency, keep the PNG as-is; otherwise, pick a background color before saving.

The saved file is huge

Transparency requires PNG, and PNG is heavy for photos. If you do not need the transparency, fill in a background color and then run the file through the image compressor to convert it to JPG or WebP — the size drops dramatically.

It says the model could not be loaded

Your device may be low on memory, or the browser may be too old. Even then, the brushes still work, so you can paint the background away by hand.
